Pathways that Deliver: Building Affordable, High-Quality Pathways into Teaching

What if every pathway into teaching was affordable and high-quality? This is the north star of Pathways that Deliver: A Policy Framework for Building Affordable, High-Quality Pathways into Teaching. Our report proposes policy solutions – anchored in four mutually-reinforcing, critical conditions – to guide state and federal policymakers to strengthen all teaching pathways.

We believe every pathway into teaching should be:

  • Instructionally-focused: Prepare aspiring teachers to understand how students learn and the instructional moves they can make to activate learning.
  • Practice-based: Equip aspiring teachers with knowledge and skills that prepare them for the realities of the classroom.
  • Accessible: Lower financial and structural barriers so more aspiring teachers can enter and complete quality preparation.
  • Innovative & responsive: Adapt to evolving PK-12 teacher and student needs, emerging research, and local context through continuous improvement and creative problem-solving.
